EUTELSAT 117 West A, formerly Satmex 8, is a high-power C- and Ku-band satellite that replaces Satmex 5 and provides Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) in both North and South America. Satmex, acquired by Eutelsat Communications in 2014, is the leading satellite services provider in the Americas, offering continental and regional services including video contribution and distribution, broadband services, cellular backhaul, and distance learning. EUTELSAT 117 West A enhances the current Eutelsat fleet in providing better performance and additional capacity. EUTELSAT 117 West A has 24 C- and 40 Ku-band transponders and is located at 116.8 degrees West longitude. The satellite was successfully launched in March 2013.
