Launched in June 2003, Optus C1 is a third-generation fixed-satellite services designed to replace an existing spacecraft in the Singtel Optus Ltd. communications constellation over Australia. One of the more complex satellites, it carries 16 antennas, along with additional capabilities, and provides communications coverage for Australia, New Zealand, and Asia for SingTel Optus. The satellite also has a secondary payload to provide military communications at UHF-, X-, and Ka-bands for the Australian Defence Forces.
